Houston, Friday, Feb. 17, 2017: The Texas Southern University’s chapter of the African Students Association (ASA) hosted their first Charity Date Auction on Thursday. The purpose of the Auction was to raise as much goods as possible to donate to the Star of Hope Foundation, a charity program. The auction consisted of 12 contestants. In order to bid and win a date, one must donate canned goods, non-perishable items or non-food items such as toiletries and hygiene products. Money donations were also accepted and cultural food and refreshments were served. The idea was brought up based on the Valentine season and produced by the young executive board of ASA aged between 20 and 23. ASA’s purpose on the campus of Texas Southern University is to simply spread and share the African culture.
